RUA Research Agenda Framework 2025–2030

Advancing Agricultural Research, Innovation, and Sustainable Development in Cambodia

The Royal University of Agriculture (RUA) has developed its Research Agenda Framework 2025–2030 to guide the university's research, innovation, and technology transfer activities in response to Cambodia's agricultural development priorities and emerging global challenges.

Aligned with RUA's 10-Year Strategic Plan (2021–2030), the Research Agenda provides a comprehensive roadmap for strengthening research excellence, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration, and translating scientific knowledge into practical solutions that benefit farmers, agribusinesses, rural communities, and society.

The framework emphasizes demand-driven, market-oriented, and sustainable research, with particular attention to agricultural productivity, climate resilience, food security, environmental sustainability, and rural economic development.

Eight Priority Research Themes

The Research Agenda identifies eight strategic research priorities for 2025–2030:

  1. Climate-Smart and Resilient Agriculture

  2. Sustainable Livestock and Aquaculture Systems

  3. Crop Improvement, Diversification, and Seed Systems

  4. Digital Agriculture, Mechanization, and Precision Technologies

  5. Postharvest Management, Processing, and Value Addition

  6. Sustainable Land, Water, and Natural Resource Management

  7. Food Safety, Nutrition, and Public Health in Agri-Food Systems

  8. Agricultural Economics, Markets, and Rural Development

These interconnected themes provide a common direction for research across RUA's ten faculties, Graduate School, and research units, drawing on the university's scientific expertise, laboratories, research stations, and institutional partnerships.

Research Targets and Expected Impact

A central commitment of the Research Agenda is to support RUA's institutional target of developing 53 research prototypes, products, or technologies by 2030, with clear pathways for practical adoption, technology transfer, and commercialization.

The framework also seeks to strengthen research capacity, increase scientific publications and innovation outputs, expand university–industry partnerships, and contribute research-based evidence to agricultural policy and decision-making.

Implementation and Collaboration

Implementation will be carried out through faculty-specific research plans, interdisciplinary projects, research capacity development, and partnerships with government agencies, international institutions, development partners, and the private sector.

The Center for Research and Innovation (CRI) will support institutional research coordination, management, monitoring, and evaluation to ensure that research activities contribute to the university's strategic objectives.

Through this Research Agenda, RUA reaffirms its commitment to advancing agricultural science and innovation while contributing to a more productive, competitive, climate-resilient, and sustainable agricultural and food system in Cambodia.
