Current Research
This project enhances its aquaculture research in support of the effective implementation of Bachelor of Science in Fisheries, Associate of Science Program in Aquaculture, and Master of Science Program in Aquaculture curriculums, fisheries and aquaculture development policy and commercialization of fisheries related products. Specifically, the project will build on the existing project implemented under HEIP moving towards the commercialization of high-quality red tilapia fingerlings by addressing the following research issues during HEIP2 (i) improved quality of broodstocks (breeding parent) through the implementation of a yearly family selective breeding program, (ii) applied mono-sex technology and laboratory sex determination techniques for high quality mono-sex red tilapia fingerling (iii) conducted growth-out experiments on the mono-sex tilapia produced in order to inform its quality for commercialization using commercial vs formulated feeds.
